adidas Athlete Services

adidas was renovating the first 3 floors of the building that housed the Athlete Services and Advanced Creation teams and this created the opportunity to really fit the building to their needs.

The Challenge

Athlete Services is where new and existing athletes come to be fitted for special footwear and apparel designed specifically for their needs. They need a product testing area, space for measuring and tools, a footwear wall, and a place for the athlete and their entourage to relax.

Advanced Creation is responsible for color, materials, samples, future technology, and product testing. They have issues with people not knowing how to find them, while other teams want to reduce walkthroughs and not be so easily found.

The Solution

I met with each of the separate teams to determine pain points in their current workspaces and hear any specific requests. We collaborated with an architect and custom builder to create a more custom-fit design to improve workflows and the overall atmosphere.

Custom Footwear Wall. Alongside Warren Godridge from Drive21, I designed a custom footwear wall that allowed for a custom configuration and had a drop-down shelf for each shoe which was flush to the wall when closed. This allowed a variety of configurations to look good with any quantity of shoes while allowing for a smooth surface to be used for projecting video if needed.

Conference Room Distraction Banding. Using sole patterns from historical adidas footwear, I created a range of distraction banding designs for the conference rooms. These provided more privacy when the room had more sensitive material. Each room had a letter/number code for booking that is now prominent and much easier to find then the previous small labels.
